Super engineering | Super large pipe diameter, the first construction of Nantong Port's "drainage heart"

Nantong Port is located at the golden intersection of the "T" shape along the Yangtze River and the coast. As a port type national logistics hub and a first-class open port in China, it is the only port in Jiangsu Province that has both a river port and a sea port. It is also a major member of the Shanghai International Shipping Center Combined Port.

In the coastal strategic layout of Nantong Port, Lvsi Operation Area has built the first fully automated container terminal in the province, becoming an important support for the industrial layout of Nantong's port area and an important guarantee for the sustainable development of the port.

At present, the construction of the No. 12 berth dock project in the Lvsi operation area is accelerating, aiming to create a 100000 ton universal berth, covering the construction of the dock, approach bridge, harbor basin, and supporting yard. The annual designed throughput is 1 million tons, aiming to build a modern and efficient port logistics network. Among them, the underground pipeline network, as the "lifeline" of port infrastructure, undertakes key tasks such as water transmission, drainage, energy transmission, and information exchange, and puts forward extremely high requirements for the quality and construction reliability of pipelines.

In this context, the ERA HMPP polypropylene winding structure wall pipe (Type B) (hereinafter referred to as the "ERA HMPP pipeline") stands out with excellent performance and becomes the core pipeline of the drainage pipe network system of the project. 01 High pressure and anti settlement, capable of carrying heavy loads of thousands of tons

As is well known, port drainage actually faces two major challenges:

One is the heavy pressure

The carrying capacity of the cargo yard, the back and forth shuttle of container trucks, and the operational pressure of gantry cranes These loads of tens or even hundreds of tons will be directly transmitted to the underground pipeline network.

Secondly, the geological complexity

The port is affected by seawater erosion and sedimentation, and is distributed with a "soft hard interlocking" geological structure from top to bottom, including fine sand, silt, silt mixed with silty clay, and a mixture of silty clay and silty clay.

This requires supporting pipeline products to not only withstand high-pressure compression, but also have strong adaptability to different geological conditions, and be able to resist pipe wall damage caused by rock friction. The HMPP pipeline demonstrated significant advantages at this time.


High compressive strength and anti settlement ability

The elastic modulus is 1500MPa, which is twice that of HDPE. This means that it has high compressive strength and anti settlement ability, good flexibility, and is not easily deformed under heavy pressure. Even under geological conditions where the soft and hard layers of silty clay and gravel alternate, it can maintain a stable structural shape and effectively avoid interface displacement caused by uneven settlement.

02 Double sealing, building a strong defense line for port security

The sealing performance of port engineering is directly related to operational safety, structural durability, and economic benefits. Any leakage not only affects the normal operation of the port, but may also erode the foundation, damage the dock facilities, and cause long-term safety hazards. Therefore, the requirement for pipeline sealing performance is "foolproof".

03 Two core advantages, resisting extreme environments

Nantong City, Jiangsu Province is a storm surge prone area, which is characterized by fierce, fast, strong and destructive force, often accompanied by severe temperature changes and high-intensity rainstorm. According to statistics, more than 90% of the years in this region will have a daily rainfall of 50 mm rainstorm, with an average annual rainstorm day of about 2.7 days; Between 2018 and 2023, Taiwan was affected 19 times. During storm surges and typhoons, poor drainage can easily lead to water accumulation at the port and equipment soaking, seriously affecting port operations and navigation safety.

Faced with extreme environmental challenges, the ERA HMPP pipeline exhibits two core advantages:

The maximum diameter of the pipeline can reach 4m. The 2.4m diameter pipeline is selected for this project. The inner wall of the pipeline is smooth and flat, and the water resistance coefficient is extremely low, which means that under the same flow conditions, the flow speed is faster, the drainage efficiency of rainstorm water is higher, and the risk of waterlogging caused by storm surge is effectively dealt with. This is just the first trial of the Ox Knife in the era. In the future, with the development and implementation of larger caliber products, it will provide stronger drainage guarantees for more ports.

2.4-meter ultra large caliber

Super strong corrosion resistance and temperature resistance

The polypropylene material used in ERA HMPP pipes has better resistance to chemical corrosion of circulating media than traditional pipes such as HDPE and PVC, and can withstand the erosion and corrosion of suspended solids in rainwater; At the same time, the ERA HMPP pipe also has a wide temperature resistance range unique to PP, which can range from minus 20C to high temperature of 90C. Whether exposed to summer sun or cold waves in winter, it can maintain stable performance without deformation.
