Hebei Wei County All-Area Water Network Surface Water Irrigation Project

Who would have thought that this small city in southern Hebei was once in a dilemma of agricultural development due to over-exploitation of groundwater? Today, with the advancement of the all-area water network strategic project, an ecological picture of "dry land turning into fertile land" is unfolding here.
01 Livelihood projects break the bottleneck of development
Wei County is located at the southernmost tip of Hebei Province, with severe shortage of underground water resources.The whole county is an area of groundwater over-exploitation, and the all-area water network project has become a regional strategic project.
As a key livelihood project for rural revitalization, the Wei County All-Area Water Network Project takes the construction of farmland pipe network as the core, and realizes a modern irrigation system of "water network access, pump station activation, trunk and branch connection, and drought irrigation" through the system engineering of "water source restoration + intelligent control".
The Wei County water network surface water irrigation project involves the southeast, northwest and northeast areas of Wei County. It builds water systems, roads and greening at the same time. It is a comprehensive project integrating irrigation and water supply, drainage, ecological tourism and smooth transportation.
The total length of water network, road network and forest network exceeds 670km. This water network project restored and excavated 36 main and branch channels, expanded and renovated 168 ponds, covering an area of 4,429 mu, with a total water storage capacity of 10.43 million m3. New sluice gates, culverts, inverted siphons, water pumping stations and supporting field pipe network projects were built, and modern water measurement facilities and intelligent management and control systems were built. It is the largest surface water irrigation project in North China.

Through the scientific layout and laying of pipeline networks, the operation of the irrigation waterway system is guaranteed, so that farmers can open the outlet at any time and use water resources in time.
Under the strategic guidance of "storing grain in the land and storing grain in technology", Wei County activates agricultural ecology with water network construction and connects the road to harvest with scientific and technological pipelines, drawing a new picture of high-quality development of modern agriculture.
02 Technical breakthroughs consolidate the foundation of harvest
Since October last year, as trucks of ERA pipes were unloaded from transport vehicles in an orderly manner, more than 230,000 meters of pipeline laying work has been fully launched on this land. The project team was stationed in Wei County for nearly eight months and participated in it from the beginning of construction, providing support for design and construction, and guiding on-site operations in an orderly manner.
In order to reduce the impact of construction on planting, the dormant winter of wheat has become the golden window period for construction, but this also brings difficulties in construction. PVC-U material is more brittle at low temperatures, and it is easier to cause damage to the pipe during construction, transportation and storage. In theory, it is not recommended to carry out construction in severe winter.
In order to cooperate with the project progress, the ERA team resolutely accepted this arduous task. With scientific coordination and professional guidance, the team assisted the on-site construction to proceed in an orderly and efficient manner. The toughness of ERA PVC-U pipes also brings great convenience to construction, effectively reduces the adverse effects of climatic conditions, and injects wisdom and efficiency into agriculture.
From April 1, 2024, agricultural pipes will implement new national standards. The new standard further improves the various index requirements of pipes and has stricter requirements on product quality, such as increasing the requirements for pipe opacity, increasing elongation at break, and increasing flatness tests.
As the first project after participating in the compilation of the new standard ["GB/T 13664-2023 Low-pressure irrigation rigid polyvinyl chloride (PVC-U) pipes" standard], ERA uses more standardized irrigation PVC-U pipes and fittings, strictly controls costs on the basis of ensuring quality, accurately configures pipeline layout, simplifies design and construction, and promises a 20-year warranty, far exceeding the life of conventional agricultural pipes, fully meeting the pipe function and quality requirements in irrigation scenarios, and providing strong support for the construction of high-standard farmland in Wei County.

Strong hydrophobicity
PVC-U has a smooth inner wall, small water flow resistance, fast hydrophobicity, effectively prevents blockage problems, and ensures the stability of hydrophobicity. As a rigid pipe, it has the performance of resisting external forces and pressure resistance. When buried for hydrophobicity, it can effectively prevent pipe deformation and damage caused by external forces such as soil settlement, ensuring the safety and efficiency of the irrigation system.

03 Science and technology wisdom empowers high-quality agricultural development
General Secretary Xi Jinping pointed out that "a strong agricultural country is the foundation of a strong socialist modern country." Recently, the CPC Central Committee and the State Council proposed in the"Plan for Building a Powerful Agriculture (2024-2035)" to strengthen the construction and transformation of modern irrigation areas and improve the agricultural water conservancy infrastructure network; the "Rural Comprehensive Revitalization Plan (2024-2027)" mentioned the clear requirements of accelerating the construction and transformation of irrigation areas and promoting the prevention and control of groundwater over-exploitation, soil erosion, and heavy metal pollution in soil.

With policy support, a large number of agricultural infrastructure constructions have sprung up, providing greater support for China's grain production goals.In the Henan Anyang Guangrunpo High-standard Farmland Demonstration Zone, ERA participated in 662.5 kilometers of UPVC pipes; in the Suken Demonstration Farm in Yancheng, Jiangsu, ERA's HDPE solid wall irrigation and breeding pipes were used, providing complete support from the main pipe to the branch pipe and the outlet.
